Reporting Child Abuse

Reports can be made to several agencies. The appropriate agency is determined by the jurisdiction where the alleged abuse occurred. Also, any reports thought to have occurred within a given county can be reported to that county’s Department of Human Services. Staff there can help you decide who else may need to be notified.

One must make a conscientious effort to report suspected abuse or neglect to proper authorities.  “Reasonable cause to know or suspect that a child had been subjected to abuse or neglect” or if we have observed the child being subjected to circumstances or conditions which would reasonably result in abuse or neglect.” If reported in good faith, we do not have to have proof and are immune from civil or criminal liability. If you fail to report you could be charged with a Class 3 misdemeanor.
